Okay, given the latest kerfuffle at [livejournal.com profile] ftm (continued here, by the way, as she actually came back, and did I say I'd find an ass-kisser? I did!), I decided to go back in the archives and find my very first post on [livejournal.com profile] ftm - which, incidentally, was the very first post I ever made to any community, as well. It was my first community, and I believe it was probably still the only one on my list when I made that post.

(How did I get to 89 communities exactly?)

Anyway, here's that very first post. How cute! I made it on my 5th day on lj, on the 26th of March, 2002. Keener, I was.

And boy, do I ever sound like a teenager.

Awww....

I never post there anymore, and I don't give a crap about those FtMs in that community. Why?

Well, let's look at this short comment and your response to it. That poster? is correct. FtM on LJ is the most dramatic fucking community on LJ, because FtMs are fucking dramatic (and every G-d dman one of them needs to calm down). It's just a fact. There may be arrogance or whateverthefuckyouwannacalit on the other side (like with the OP of those comments/about the book), but for fuck's sake, the most arrogant people within the whole scope are the fucking FtMs.

Sorry man, but we are bitches--nitpicky, hairpulling ones--when it comes to arguing. And men don't normally behave like that.

Yeah, I sound pissy, but that's what I have to say about FtMs, including myself. I don't embrace my bitchhood, and have an incredible desire to get rid of it, but I'm not sure if it's possible. It might be part of my birth gender.

And before we scream sexism, remeber who you're talking to here, and what the context is. ;-*

Cute first post, BTW.

A little long here, but I'm windy like that

Eh. Well. Some agreement, some...not-agreement.

That poster was indeed correct about the drama on [livejournal.com profile] ftm. That's basically why I "left" the community. (Not that I am not still technically a member, and once in a blue moon - like now - I throw in my two pennies.) I'm not precisely sure why it's so bad in the FtM community, and I don't think it's entirely to do with our birth sex. I can't think of any other community populated by the XX-born that is quite as bad, on a consistent basis, as [livejournal.com profile] ftm.

I don't know why, but [livejournal.com profile] ftm depresses the fuck out of me. Or maybe I do know why...it has something to do with the fact that it feels a little like the backstage of a Jerry Springer-esque talk show. Something about it all feels sordid and oppressive, like it's all about finding strange-looking devices to attach to our sensitive bits. It seems creepy. I don't know how that plays into it at all, if any.

But I'm going to have to disagree with much of the rest of the spirit of your comment. That poster was completely wrong about that book being terribly relevant, and he was wrong that everyone should calm down.

The book, I hope you'll agree, sounded absolutely atrocious. (If you don't agree, I think I'll have a hernia over here.) Even if you want to argue that an FtM character = relevancy, you have to agree that it was just plain badly written. I mean, I was rolling my eyes through that makeout scene.

And the calming down...look, I'm not going to argue about nit-picking at EACH OTHER. Maybe it's justified in some cases, but I'm not even getting into specific cases; it's just tiresome overall. But, you know, this is an FtM community, and that's who it's for. That poster was more than arrogant, she was WAY over the line, period.

That was a little bit like...a man wandering into a feminist community and informing the group that he's written a book about a woman coming to terms with her feminist politics, and yeah, a lot of feminists haven't liked it so far, but he's heard it AAALLL before, so y'all can shut up now. And posting condescending little, "Well, aren't you stupid, I don't think you understood my book, but this is what I meant, " sort of comments to protesters.

It's bull. It's entirely different from something inside the community. Entirely. You wander in from the proverbial "outside," you don't get uppity.

And so that is why I referred to that guy telling the community - not Ms. Defensive - to calm down as...well, I said ass-kisser. I can think of stronger terms.

Sorry man, but we are bitches--nitpicky, hairpulling ones--when it comes to arguing. And men don't normally behave like that.

Dude. You must not have met [livejournal.com profile] njyoder yet. Seriously.

I love going back and looking at what I wrote back when I first got a journal. It puts things into perspective.

And yes. Cute first post.
