I'll admit this is a meme. But it's a really COOL meme. I did this days ago, and haven't had a chance to post it, but I think other people should find this fun.

Okay, here it is (I've completely forgotten who I originally saw post this, so these are the rules from memory): put your iPod/MP3 player (this assumes you have one) on "shuffle." (If you don't have one, I suppose you could just turn on the radio. It ought to work the same way, since you don't pick the rotation on the radio, either.)

Then, write down the first lyric of the first twenty songs. These form a poem. The first lyric of the 21st song is your title.

Did I cheat when I did this? You betcha! But not so much as you might think. I did move a few lines around (and skip some really goofy songs), but some of the eeriest combinations of lines were pure serendipity. (The boat/stowaway thing, for example.) Totally freaky.

I'm pleased that it sort of formed a story (especially with my bits of re-arrangement, heh), even if it IS unintentionally hilarious with the way you keep getting smacked between the eyes with really obvious, well-known song lyrics.

Also, I didn't see anything saying I HAD to keep this to a strict, four-line stanza format (unless I missed it), so um...I didn't. I actually spliced one line into another towards the end, but hopefully the credits are clear enough.

So...TA-DAAH! [Re-]shuffled art.

NEAT, huh?

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] griffen, a meme you CAN'T pass up:

When you see this, post in your own journal with your favorite quote from The Princess Bride. Or you can comment it here. Don't do the easy ones: "As you wish," or the Inigo Montoya speech. ("My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.")

There's also everyone's all-time internet favourite, i.e., "You keep using that word..." But I won't use that one. There's one part in particular that I have quoted for many years, even before seeing the movie. (In fact, I've only seen the movie once, as a kid - my main experience with Princess Bride is with the book. And believe me, if you haven't read it, this part is even more amazing in the book.):

Inigo Montoya: (fencing) You are wonderful.

Man in Black: Thank you; I've worked hard to become so.

Inigo: I admit it, you are better than I am.

Man in Black: Then why are you smiling?

Inigo: Because I know something you don't know.

Man in Black: And what is that?

Inigo Montoya: I...am not left-handed.

(Switches his sword to his right hand and begins to press the Man in Black backwards towards the Cliffs of Insanity.)

Man in Black: You are amazing.

Inigo: I ought to be, after 20 years.

Man in Black: Oh, there's something I ought to tell you.

Inigo: Tell me.

Man in Black: I'm not left-handed either.

(Tosses his sword into his left hand. The tide turns again.)

Inigo: Who are you?!

Snagged this from [livejournal.com profile] t_eyla. Apparently The Big Read claims the average adult has only read 6 books from their "top 100" list. SO. The meme is to see how you compare:

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you love.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ.

24. It annoys me I'm one short of a quarter. I might go read something just to fix that )
beandelphiki: Animated icon of the TARDIS from the British television show, "Doctor Who." (...really.)
I never do these anon memes, mainly because they're usually love-only, but this one isn't, SO:

Click here to (anonymously) tell me what you really think of me. Tell me you like my icons, tell me you can't stand me and just read my journal to mock under flock, whatever.

Lemme have it.

(Warning: the comments make this entry a massive load. One thread at a time shouldn't be too much trouble for most people, but don't try to load the whole page! It crashed my browser three times.)

Blah, there's been some big weather changes in my area lately - I mean, totally bipolar weather changes. Icy, foggy snowfall which then rebounded back to warm, slushy temperatures. My wrists are stiff and hurty because of it, and the Boss's Daughter is having so much trouble with her back that she basically only worked four hours on Thursday, despite being scheduled to work all day. It SUCKS.

Also, I finally managed to find the time and energy to write down the answers to the questions [livejournal.com profile] euclase asked me for an interview meme. These are damn good questions, too:

Unfortunately, I don't actually have a personal theme song )

And although the interview meme has been done before, I've never participated before, so I extend this to my flist. Comment and say you want to be interviewed, and I'll ask you five questions.

I don't promise them to be as good as these were, though.

The July 2007 issue of Scientific American has an article called, "The Evolution of Cats." It's unfortunately not available online, though, or I'd link you guys.

From the "key concepts" summary:

  • The family history of the cat has been murky because cat fossils are sparse and difficult to tell apart. But advances in the study of DNA have made it possible to construct the first clearly resolved family tree for cats.

  • The DNA evidence shows that all living cats trace back to a pantherlike predator that lived in Southeast Asia 10.8 million years ago. The great roaring cats were the first to branch off; seven other lineages followed.

...And apparently the domestic cat comes from the most recent branch ancestor, which lived 3.4 million years ago!

I opened the magazine to the page showing the "cat family tree" and held it in front of Callisto's nose today. (See my icon; that's Callisto, the biggest of our four.)

ME: Look, Callisto! It's your genealogy!

CALLISTO: *sniffsniff* *looks at me: IZ NOT EDEEBALL!*

ME: Well, you're not supposed to eat it, cat.

CALLISTO: *disdain* *rolls over* *look: PLZ TO BE RUBBIN MAH BELIE*

Conversations with him generally go something along those lines.

In other news - because everyone's doing it, and it's actually rather attractive - my personality.info badge )
