Evidently, Soy Dream has discontinued it's Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream flavour.

And the vegans wept.

Who knows, maybe they did it for a good reason, but apparently they haven't explained why. If nothing else, some pressure from their costumers might squeeze out a public explanation.

So, if anyone cares:

The petition is here.

(Personally, I had no idea you could make ice cream with soy...I wonder if it's any good?)

I've never found a soy product, apart from soy sauce and miso, that I'd consume if there were any alternative.

Soya milk, at my most charitable, I'd describe as slightly-sweetened dilute whitewash. It all goes downhill from there.

Never mind my philosophical problem with people who eschew animal products and then make surrogates of them. That really weirds me out.

Hmm. Well, I can't imagine only eating plants and things made to look/taste like plants. Seems like that would get very old, very fast.

And veggies burgers? I love veggie burgers. The ones we can get in our stores here taste more like meat than meat does.

But have you heard of those veggie turkeys, for Thanksgiving dinners? They're blocks of tofu, shaped like turkeys.

Shaped like live turkeys, with the feathers and all. Not cooked.

I wish someone would explain THAT one to me.

I know, I'm just weird. But veggie burgers, bacon, sausages and so on just somehow seem to me to be deeply philosophically wrong.

Probably not my place to say, because I'm omnivorous. Perhaps it's growing up right on the edge of the countryside and helping out on friends' farms right from being little, so I never had the "Eeek, it's bits of dead animals!" epiphany that seems to hit kids whose practical experience of meat is plastic-wrapped stuff from supermarkets. *grin* I once wrote a very disturbing short story about that...

Tofurky makes a great fake turkey that's shaped like a turkey, kinda... it doesn't have feathers, though, but it does have a fake skin on it that gets all crispy when cooked. It also comes with fake giblets in the gravy, whatever giblets are.

Tofurky "deli slices" taste fantastic... better even than real turkey.

But...I've seen pictures! Live turkey, not dead one. It had a head and a tail and everything....

It was in our paper. Maybe it was a different brand, or something? It really looked weird. The subject comes up at our dinner table practically every Thanksgiving.

Soy Dream is actually one of the better ones.
Tofutti cuties are pretty good little fake ice cream sandwiches.

I'm pretty lactose intolerant, so whenever I indulge in ice cream, I get really, incredibly sick, so I've tried a few of the soy alternatives.

Of course... they're better when heavily covered with chocolate syrup... but, what isn't?

i always drink silk milk which is a soy milk.

although almond milk is the best milk alternative imho the only downfall is towards the bottom of the quart are little tiny almond bits. which is suprising when you are drinking milk but tasty nontheless.

soy dream is good. you can't tell its not real ice cream.
