My mom has placed a plastic milk jug half-full of water on top of the kitchen garbage can.

This, she tells me, is a booby-trap. Because Lester (one of our cats) LOVES to tip it over and dig through it and spread smelly garbage all over the kitchen floor.

This, I tell her, will not work. Because Lester likes to come at the garbage can from above and behind it, from the ledge. He will surely climb onto the garbage can and knock the milk jug flying WITHOUT getting himself wet, thereby making a hugely inefficient mess.

Mom just shrugged, and the milk jug has gone nowhere. Either because she thinks it MIGHT work (in a blue moon), or because she hates to admit I'm right. As usual.

Women. Honestly.

Maybe if she filled it all the way, the cat wouldn't be able to knock it over at all.

I agree, though, that any plan that includes dumping a half gallon of water all over your own kitchen needs to be rethought. :P

Might I suggest... a bungee cord?
