So...one of my coworkers apparently was having "woman issues" on Friday, and went home early. Fine, no trouble.

Then she also went home early on Saturday. Called in sick yesterday. AND called in sick today. So I got called in early. AND I HAVEN'T FUCKING SLEPT, YAAAY! I think I only got about two hours sleep yesterday. So I'm going to be ready to fucking DROP by the time I even get to work, and now I'm re-scheduled to work about ten hours. But NO, I'm not bitter.

(I naturally seem to sleep better in the day. I'm really starting to suspect Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome - nothing else seems to fully explain why I've never been able to easily fall asleep until early morning unless I'm physically at the end of my rope, and maybe not even then. Given half a chance, my sleep/wake cycle will immediately and drastically swing around the clock until I'm going to bed around 5-7 a.m., and I'm always more alert and creative at night then I can EVER be in the day. Even in elementary school, my parents couldn't seem to shift me to the 7 p.m./7 a.m. pattern of turning in and rising that they wanted, even though they were iron firm on my bedtime.)

This girl's fucking vagina better be rotting out, or something. I mean, I'm NOT coming in tomorrow - she better get her ass to the fucking hospital and find out what's fucking wrong and fix it already.

Her and her damn brother with his intestinal issues. HE'S the reason I ended up working 12 hours straight back in February. This family needs to get their medical shit together, seriously. I hate the fact that this guy is considered a reliable worker when the fact is that he doesn't bother to take any real care of his diet, and then everyone has to cover his shifts when he's sick the next day.

JUST. FUCK.

I want to cry.

yikes! *hugs*
:((((((((((((((

have you tried something to help get sleep started? I can't sleep before sun up unless I take trazodone. Ambien worked ok, but I didn't really like it. Also, benadryl (diphenhydramine) is used for sleep over the counter, but it makes me feel leaden.

You know, I never considered it, really. That would require me telling my doctor, and convincing her that DSPS is an issue here...and even I'm not totally convinced yet. I'm kinda looking at what I find online and seeing...I'm either an extreme night owl or mildly DSPS. (Because I'm pretty sure I could fall asleep around midnight if I worked at it, and possibly sliiightly earlier, and midnight seems to be the threshold cutoff for Dx. I'm not totally clear on how solidly that line is drawn.)

And she's already kinda nervous about giving me Dexedrine...I just wouldn't want her to think I'm diagnosing myself with everything and after a bunch of drugs. (Not that, to my understanding, Ambien is exactly a thrill fest. I have no idea though.)

Oh, and...I don't know if she really knows anything at all about sleep disorders. I developed completely classic Restless Legs Syndrome when I was 15, and she told me that it was probably dry skin and to, "exfoliate." So yeah.

I've thought about trying to get one of those lamps...*handwaves* You know the ones I mean, yeah, those...lamps...? But I have loft bed (so I don't know where I'd put it), and I've heard they're really expensive.

I wouldn't take Benadryl (it doesn't have any listed interactions with Claritin that I can find, but taking two antihistamines at once still seems like a sketchy idea), but I know there's other sleep aids available OTC. Maybe I'll consider trying them.

And honestly, I don't mind my own internal schedule. What I resent is being required to try to alter it all the time for everyone else, and the fact that an unexpected crisis (like this one) means that MY sleep time gets cut into. While with someone else, it wouldn't be. That's no one's fault in particular...but it kind of sucks.

DSPS is what I have. I'm convinced of it. My circadian rhythm is off.

Huh. But you don't have an official diagnosis? (Not criticizing that if not, since most health professionals know ZIP about sleep disorders, I'm just asking to clarify.)

What convinces you that it's DSPS?

I'm really not 100% sure that it's DSPS in my case...I think it's rather borderline. And I know that when I was a younger teenager, I got pretty good for a short time at getting myself to fall asleep before the wee hours with these whole-body mental and muscle relaxation exercises I did religiously. Didn't really last though, and I don't know if that would work anymore (especially as I now DEFINITELY have RLS).

Nowadays, I just depend on exhaustion to fall asleep and The Alarm Clock Volume The Angels Can Hear In Heaven to wake up. Which isn't always reliable, but...

I didn't know there was such a thing as Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome.

Learn something new every day. :)

Hope, uh, everything works out for you, hon. Sorry if my New Found Knowledge Squee is a little misplaced.

PS: Diggin' your Doctor/Donna header, btw. Awesome.

Naw, I totally understand the sometimes-socially-unacceptable Knowledge Squee. I can be terrible enough with it to not even catch that I should have said, "get well soon," or similar until it's quite mortifyingly late.

And thank you! It was made by [livejournal.com profile] dana_cz; I think it's full of pretty.

My sleep cycle seems to be a non-24-hour cycle. It's probably not even a multiple of 6. But I have to exist in this 24-hour work world for now, so I do. :P

It's hard to go to sleep at the "wrong time", for sure. Juniper has the same kind of problem. What if you tried splitting your sleeping in two - four hours at one point and four hours at another, with your most productive middle of the night period in between?

Well see, I normally work around 3 p.m. to store close (so between 9 and 10). So my internal sleep schedule currently works around that okay.

It's just...getting unexpectedly called to come in at 11:30 a.m. totally shoots that schedule all to hell.

Well, heck, don't they know that most people spend the hours after work socializing and stuff? You can't be expected to work until 10.00 p.m. and then come in again barely 12 hours later! That's ridiculous!

LOL, funny you should say that because my schedule used to be 11:30/noonish to close all the time. My hours only dropped because we got more staff.

Some of my coworkers end up with shifts where they close and then are required to come in for 8 a.m. the next morning. I've asked my boss if she doesn't think this is unreasonable, and she just gives me a blank look.

Hm...i'm sorry about all that. Though i don't know what they (your co-workers) are going through it could be something they can't help, i've hd both issues this year and still no answer with innumerable tests (blood, ultra-sounds) and still no identifiable cause....but this woman could have been serious the first day or two then is just slacking off big time, which is unacceptable and hard for you. :(
Hope things look up and someone picks up some slack for you soon!

Naw, I don't think she's really slacking or faking. I was just frustrated and emotionally fragile from sleep deprivation when I posted this. Hence it coming out bitchy. Actually I was kind of concerned she might have an exploded cyst or something, because she's never been out sick this long for female issues before. But evidently another coworker of ours caught what she has, so she really just got sick at the same time.

Her brother...I don't know. He's apparently had issues his whole life, and knows what he really shouldn't eat, but does so anyway and then is horribly sick. Frustrating.

And hello! I used to have notifications turned on for when people add me, but I guess that got reset the last time my paid account ran out and I didn't realize. So yeah, hi. :)
