Goodbye to Lester

More bad news about Lester.


Lester has leukemia.

Which, of course, has no cure. And there's no treatment for cats. He'd just get sicker and sicker. They say it's a miracle he's still with us, and they have no idea how he's managing that.

So we're getting him put down. It's the only thing to do.

I decided not to go to the hospital with Mom and Nicole. Partially because I have to get ready for work. Partially because I realized I just don't WANT to go. I kind of want to say goodbye, but not like that. Not with him so sick and everyone around crying and bawling and wildly petting him. And hospital smells, and the sounds of crying cats and dogs, all in so much pain. No.

So I'm home. I laid down with Tiger for a while and cried. She's been frantically licking and nuzzling everything she can reach. She hates when we're upset. She laid down with me, and put her head against mine.

My dog was put down a few months ago and they had the vet come to our house to do it. It was nice that it could be done in our home, nice for her, nice for us, not to mention she was too large and couldn't walk anymore because of hip problems so we weren't able to easily get her out of our house. I'm pretty sure i glared at the vet when he was in the house and i didn't watch, partly because i didn't want the vet to see my cry because i was sure it would've been awful for him but mostly because i'm terrified of death and i probably would've shit my pants. I did force myself to come upstairs and pet her one last time after the vet was finished and getting his truck into the driveway so they could take her to wherever they were taking her...

But i'm sure other people telling there sad stories is the last thing you want to hear, so i'm sorry for that... and you probably don't want to here "I understand" come with it because everyone goes through different emotions when dealing with loss... I'm sure you spent lots of good days with your kitty, so just remember those :) *hugs*

I don't mind hearing "I understand"...I think losing a pet can be pretty universal, most of the time. The love we have for our animals is usually uncomplicated. Thank you. *hugs*

It will be alright. He was the luckiest cat to live his years with a caring owner and I'm sure he was grateful. He's more grateful that you let him to a place that ended his suffering.

I'm so sorry...I remember seeing my brother's cat got hit while he was on vacation...didn't exactly like having to tell him...yeah I know I undertsand isn't the best thing because no one ever believes it...but I understand it is hard to lose an animal...*huggles him*
