My Life on the Internet
Sep. 17th, 2007 10:50 pmI woke up today with a nasty leg cramp, so I went back to sleep, and slept in WAY too long. I missed the opportunity to do a birthday dinner with my dad, but since I didn't feel like going out anyway, I don't really care. I forgot to call my Aunt Krista back, too...
Today has been a NOTHING day. I didn't even get the growing hole in my work pants patched. I feel like crap about that.
About the only dubious accomplishment I managed today was typing up a TL;DR application to
house_stamped. I think it's a bit biased (or maybe that's just how it looks to me), but after several attempts to "fix," it, it's as unbiased as it's going to be. I just avoided giving a direct answer to the "who do you relate to" question.
So yeah. My work for the day is here if you're a member.
I need a shower. And food.

TL;DR = "Too long; didn't read." Originally, it was used as a reply to people to essentially say, "You've gone on far too long, and nobody really cares anymore if they ever did." People would respond with nothing but, "TL;DR," as a reply. I believe it was first created as a reply to tech geek posts, and then started being used in debates/wankery as well.
Then (probably due to overuse) it became a scorned reply in and of itself - i.e. anyone who would only say, "TL;DR" is considered a lazy dick who can't be bothered to actually respond to debate points. (Either that, or it's seen as a sign that the person is getting their ass handed to them.)
Generally, I think it's now used mainly in a self-deprecating kind of way, or...well, I've mostly seen it still used at Fandom Wank at the start of a comment to say, "This person has gone on too long on something nobody really cares about. WANKER!" And then the comment goes on to further mock and/or explain (sometimes in detail) why that person is a moron. So it's a bit tongue-in-cheek/ironic.
But that's the evolution of language on the internet.
Here it is on urban dictionary if you're curious. Although I think I've pretty much summed those entries up.
