Busy week. I fully recovered (I think) from being sick (except for a few more short bouts of fever) in time to go on our vacation to the Banff Springs Hotel. We got back from that in time for the first few days of the new semester, which have been a little hectic. But now I know where my classes are, I have all my books, and I'm still in that "new" zone where I actually believe I might do all my homework this semester. (HAH!)
The Banff Springs hotel is designed to look like a castle, and my mother and I had a great time getting completely lost in it. Twice. Heh, and so many of the employees have French accents (from France, not Quebec!) which struck me as quite posh. I'd be curious to know why there were so many employees there from France.
There wasn't much for either my sister or I to do at the hotel - my mother mostly wanted to go to the spa, so naturally we got to hang around the hotel room. But it wasn't as boring as I thought it would be, as we trotted down Banff avenue the first morning, and I bought myself some books to read, including David Sedaris's Naked, since I've heard so much about him. The only bad thing I have to say about Naked is that it's too short. Run, don't walk, to your nearest bookstore and pick this one up.
We discovered, too late, that the hotel has high-speed internet access. My mother lamented the fact that we hadn't brought the laptop. I spent the whole vacation looking at the hook-ups and wishing I could update and describe the hotel, since parts of it were so beautiful. Especially Mt. Stephen Hall, which is decorated with suits of armour, and has a marble staircase curving down on one side. Unfortunately, Mom and I only got a good look in there once, as it's booked practically to the minute with weddings.
Oh, and apparently Scandinavia isn't actually a country? I feel quite stupid.

I figured it would be good times there.
