Nonononononononononono!!!!

My youngest cat...Lester. He's sick.

He hasn't been eating the past few days. He's not fat, either. He's a bony little guy.

We were worried at first, but then Mom tried giving him treats, and he ate THOSE. Mom laughed and said he was being like a little kid. If they'll eat desert, they're just being fussy, and he'll eat when he's hungry.

But it's been three days now and he's still just picking at his food dish. And yesterday afternoon Mom found that a chunk of fur was missing between his shoulder blades.

It's gotten bigger over the last day. Now it's a round bald spot the size of a quarter. He can't have done that in some sort of mishap, so it's falling out.

I'm afraid to look up what's wrong with him. But I was rather under the impression that losing round chunks of fur/hair is generally a Very Bad Sign. He has an appointment with the vet's tomorrow.

Please don't let him be sick. Please let him be okay. Please don't let my kitty die. Please.

Sophie, my cat who is...mine, she had these flings of picky eating. She just...would not eat. Not even snacks. So, what I had to do was I had to take her up to my room, her room, and sit down beside her and she would eat. If I left, she wouldn't eat. So I had to sit beside her all the time, not moving because she would shy away from the food if I did. After about...a week, she got better. She did it again once, but got over it quicker.

As for the missing fur...you have other pets right? Well, perhaps a ltitle fight occured and Lester is just scratching it and it is getting bigger? Sophie and Xena had a loud spat last night because of a cat that likes to come and sit on our deck, and I found turts of Sophie's fur all over the back door mat O.o

*Hugs*

I would like to believe it's a battle wound...I would. But Lester and Tiger fight so rarely. They snuggle together, mostly, and she washes him. If they were human, they'd be lying in each other's arms all the time.

But thank you so much for the support.

Xena and Sophie don't fight much anymore either. Xena washes the toher cats all the time..even though Kitten doesn't appreciate anything.

Just when there are outside influences. I'm sure Lester will be fine.

Thanks. SO much.

*is still sorry he missed your birthday*
*left 42 emails from lj untouched while he had a build-up and breakdown*
*is making half-hearted attempts now to catch up*

As near as I can tell, you only mentioned your birthday when you edited the entry...that doesn't count as an announcement. :P I could be really wrong about that, though.

I was mainly preoccupied while you were off having a blast with [livejournal.com profile] wrdgrrl but I loved the pics. Especially the blankie. tres cool.

my cat katy is a super-picky eater and just got over a bout of not eating. some cats don't eat when they're stressed. (that seems to be katy's deal.) and when they don't eat, they get sick.

also, if a cat's got sinus congestion, and they can't smell as well, they're less likely to eat...

when katy was refusing to eat, we weaned her back onto food with scrambled eggs and turkey dogs, plus some treats. then we switched wet food brands, becasuse for some reason she stopped eating the regular stuff, so we had to get the fancy expensive Iams.

try scrambling up some eggs for him. it's protein, and it's smelly, so it might be a good way to get a decent amount of food into him.

ither than that--best wishes that it isn't anything more serious.

One of my beasties lost a patch of hair like that. Turned out to be an allergic to a bar of soap she kept licking. Soon as I removed the soap she got better.

Also, if the cats groom each other, the one might be overgrooming Lester. One of my cats grooms the whiskers off another.

As far as the eating, the only experience I had with that was the cause being a bad tooth. Had kitty in for a dental (ended up with a pulled tooth) and all was well in the world.

**hoping all turns out well for your precious critter**

Oh, thank you. The tooth thing is a thought, I'll mention it to my mom.

Were there any other signs that your cat had a bad tooth besides not eating?

All I knew was that she was getting skinnier and skinnier, I didn't notice any other symptoms. Worried, I took her to the vet, who took one look in her mouth and proclaimed, "I think I know the problem."

I fed her high-calorie kitten food for some time after that to get her back up to a resonable weight. Now she's just perfectly fine.
