So I took this quiz I got off of [livejournal.com profile] lexanlet and I got this:

I Am A Straight Man
No doubt about it You're straight as an arrow. You're secure with your sexuality, and ok with others. If anyone calls you a "fag" you're able to walk away. You are the modern defination of a "real man"
Take the Sexual Orientation Quiz

I said that I like kittens and that my preferred drink would be Jack and Coke. Then I went back and changed my "drink" answer to beer, just for fun, and got this:

I Am In The Closet
Hold up cowboy. You're not fooling anyone. Speeking of cowboys we all know that you've had thoes dirty thoughts about the marlboro man that made you go running to the confessional. And God only knows what goes on in there. Maybe you should jsut drop the cover story's, buy some nice china, give up thoes wrangler jeans and hit up the Gap.
Take the Sexual Orientation Quiz

Now I ask you...what, exactly, does this say? A man is not allowed to like beer...and pick the name "Jay" over "Jamie"...and pick Heather Graham over Demi Moore...and not be a closet case?

This is a meanless internet quiz, true, but it reminded me of the whole attitude that a man who likes all the sterotypical "man" things is faking it somehow, hiding something because he is insecure.

If we think that someone should be allowed to express their gender however they wish, does this not extend to straight men who like beer, fast cars and sports?

Why do we seem to think there is something automatically "false" about this?

I think of myself as rather far from that sterotypical "man" ideal (despite my rather damning straight-acting.com quiz scores), but I'm peeved when I see that.

Somehow, I feel like I should speak in defense of stereotypically masculine straight guys.

It's not their fault, okay? They were born that way.

(One of the best quotes I heard to this effect: a guy commented once on lj, "Seems like in order to have your gender mannerisms affirmed by biology these days, you have to be gay." Or something to that effect.)

Yeh i guess. It's up to everyone what they wanna be. What I do get annoyed with is people who cant make up they're minds. (im not talking of bisexual people, that's fine as long as they know they're bi), but ppl who say "Im gay" one minute, then "Im straight" the next. It's so confusing. Actually I guess that's why I get annoyed cos I cant figure out whether I should move in on them because they're constantly changing their minds.
lol.

Yeah, that is confusing...once I had somone tell me he was straight, and then later he said he was bi. I expressed some surprise (I really never would have guessed), and he said, "What are you talking about? I've always been gay!"

But I think sometimes that can be a thing where someone who is bi is saying just what they feel more like at the time.

I suppose. Still they should make that clear. It's confusing for us!
