Apr. 4th, 2002 05:05 pmI knew I forgot something bloody important last night. I really was tired.
I went in to see Ms. Rudd, my guidance counselor, about my graduation validation form. I wanted to make sure it had the right name on it. Well, it didn't b/c, although I'm "Dan" in the school records, I'm "Danielle" with Alberta Ed. (Yes that's my birth name...shh!)
There was a place on the form to change your name, but underneath it said: "IF YOU HAVE LEGALLY CHANGED YOUR NAME, PLEASE PRINT IT NEATLY HERE AND PROVIDE LEGAL DOCUMENTATION." Grrr. I can't have my own goddamn name on my diploma. How fucked is that? I'm so mad.
Of course, Rudd suggested I try putting "Daniel" anyway (how much work can it be for them to "accidentally" leave off two letters?) so I did, but I don't have high hopes. I also wanted to put "Scott", my chosen new middle name in place of "Leigh" but Rudd insisted I only change one thing. Since "Leigh" is gender-neutral, I don't care too much, although I wish it would say Scott. Do they put your middle name on your diploma, anyway?
My parents told me that you never need the actual diploma for anything, but it means a lot to me right now. Your diploma is the symbol of 12 years of hard work, your life so far - and mine's gonna have the wrong name. *cries*
