When I said, "dance," I meant it!

Honestly, I don't want to talk about what a disappointment Proposition 8 was. You know, I truly, genuinely believed it wouldn't pass.
All I can say to the Californians on my list is this: the fight's not over. Take heart, and don't give up!
So here's something a bit more fun, hopefully, ganked from
blackfolk:
Presidential playlists!
(If you have a slow connection, see behind the first cut below for text lists of both playlists.)
The above link opens automatically on Obama's playlist. McCain's playlist is here, although you will probably have to sign up with imeem.com to access it. (I did. It takes 10 painless seconds, though.)
Supposedly "top ten" lists of both Obama and McCain's favourite songs, as reported by the media. And they basically match what Psychology Today reported in their October piece, "Accounting For Taste." (It was in a sidebar. I included most of the text of that sidebar down below, under the second cut.)
Now I want to say this: I like both playlists! This isn't specifically a, "yay Obama" post, it's just a post to share this, because I think it's pretty awesome!
That said, here are the playlists!
Obama's Playlist
1. "Ready or Not" - The Fugees
2. "What's Going On" - Marvin Gaye
3. "I'm On Fire" - Bruce Springsteen
4. "Gimme Shelter" - The Rolling Stones
5. "Sinner Man" - Nina Simone
6. "Touch the Sky" - Kanye West
7. "You'd Be So Easy to Love" - Frank Sinatra
8. "Think" - Aretha Franklin
9. "City of Blinding Lights" - U2
10. "Yes, You Can (YOU MUST VOTE)" - Barack Obama & Will-I-Am [LOL, in his position, this would be on my top ten, too.]
Lots of good stuff here - The Fugees! Springsteen! Aretha Franklin is on his top ten, oh, love it. Also, Obama's obviously still got a willingness to embrace newer music, despite being past the age at which most people's musical tastes are "set." I like that.
And yes, the last track CAN give me goosebumps. That's damn well what music's for.
McCain's Playlist
1. "Dancing Queen" - ABBA
2. "Blue Bayou" - Roy Orbison
3. "Take A Chance On Me" - ABBA
4. "If We Make It Through December" - Merle Haggard
5. "As Time Goes By" - Dooley Wilson
6. "Good Vibrations" - The Beach Boys
7. "What A Wonderful World" - Louis Armstrong
8. "I've Got You Under My Skin" - Frank Sinatra
9. "Sweet Caroline" - Neil Diamond
10. "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" - The Platters
Again, I DO want. There's some gorgeous classics on here - Louis Armstrong, whoo, that song's one of the top-played on my Zen. I prefer Holly Cole's more haunting version of, "If We Make It Through December," to the original country one, but this song still makes me sob. (And while not all the lyrics fit - it's a song about being a single father laid off at Christmas - it got me through December of season 3 of House.) And anybody who claims to hate ABBA is probably lying.
I can't help but notice that both of them have Sinatra on their playlists. That's Sinatra for you, loved by all.
What Psychology Today had to say about McCain and Obama's respective artistic tastes:
(Any and all errors are transcription errors of mine.)
First thought when I read this a few weeks back: "classic rock from the 1950s," I can SO get behind. I don't see, "Blue Suede Shoes," or, "Three Coins in a Fountain," up there on that playlist, but I bet McCain likes them. Can't slam that.
Okay, that list of artists just made me grin from ear to ear. Especially, "Yo-Yo Ma."
Okay, thoughts? Likes, dislikes from these lists? Feel free to list your own top ten, if you can pick ten. (I sure can't!)

What Psychology Today had to say about McCain and Obama's respective artistic tastes:
(Any and all errors are transcription errors of mine.)
JOHN MCCAIN gets his kicks by reading military history and watching the Discovery Channel, and his iPod is filled with classic rock from the 1950s. One of his favourite bands is ABBA, the Swedish disco super-quartet from the 1970s. "Everybody hates them," McCain told reporters on the campaign trail. "You're a no-class guy if you like ABBA. So why does everybody go see Mamma Mia? Hypocrisy! Rank hypocrisy!"
What does this mean? "McCain's music and TV preferences are rather conventional and quite narrow," says Rentfrow [a psychologist at the University of Cambridge]. "People with such preferences are organized, hardworking, empathetic and traditional."
First thought when I read this a few weeks back: "classic rock from the 1950s," I can SO get behind. I don't see, "Blue Suede Shoes," or, "Three Coins in a Fountain," up there on that playlist, but I bet McCain likes them. Can't slam that.
BARACK OBAMA meanwhile, loves Bruce Springsteen, Yo-Yo Ma, Sheryl Crow, Jay-Z, the Rolling Stones, Elton John, Charlie Parker, Earth, Wind & Fire, and of course, Bob Dylan. "I have pretty electic tastes," Obama observed in a Rolling Stones interview.
"People with a diversity of tastes tend to be high on openness," explains Gosling [a psychologist at the University of Texas]. "This is the dimension most closely related to liberal political orientation, so it makes good sense that Obama likes such a diverse array of genres."
Okay, that list of artists just made me grin from ear to ear. Especially, "Yo-Yo Ma."
