Chuck Taylors.

I keep thinking I need to find some anti-sweatshop activist group to start donating to. If I donated funds equal to the amount I spend on all these shoes...do you guys think the karma would balance out?

*sighs* *hangs head*

I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry.

Chuck Taylor, I wish I knew how to quit you.

I think you'd go around naked if you were to not buy clothes made in some kind of deplorable human-treating conditions. So don't worry about it.

This is probably true. (Barring clothes you make yourself, of course...my mother knits so much these days that soon she may be covered only in her own knitting. Would be nice to be able to make my own clothes, but alas, I can't.)

But...it's the difference between buying in ignorance, and KNOWING Converse is owned by Nike even as I buy them. Right? I can't EVEN claim ignorance. :P

According to wiki, the controversy over CTs is such that many wearers have switched to 100% sweatshop-free alternatives, like Blackspot shoes and No Sweat shoes:

This...is going to sound TERRIBLE, but I hate chuck knock-offs. They just...never look right. I've adored chucks since I was a kid, and the fakes just make me itch. There's always something off. I think this is the only thing I am basically a brand whore over (I can't tell you right now without looking what brand my jeans are, honest).

Although I've been mulling over getting some sweatshop-free black knock-offs to make into plimsolls of Rassilon. Mainly because I don't think I could actually bring myself to paint over the CT logo on a real pair. But that's a really cool idea.
