Just ran across the old "Sesame Street" theme song online, and now I'm FUCKING BAWLING for no good reason.

Jesus.

Tell me why they don't make shows like this anymore. Why they aren't suitable for children anymore.

TELL ME WHY.

The words "Sesame Street" will always be a synonym for bliss and happiness for me.

I never watched the German version "Sesamstrasse". For a long time, I didn't even know it existed. But I quite distinctly remember that during the two summers I spent in Birmingham, Alabama with my family (1990 and 1993), all (then five) of us would gather in front of the TV and watch "Sesame Street". I didn't understand a word, since it was all in English, and "Sessamahstree" only became "Sesame Street" for me much, much later.

For me as a kid, that show was a part of the magic that was the US, the country where the sun always shines, and where the shops don't ever close, and where you can buy magic food like peanut butter and doughnuts and tortillas and chocolate chip cookies.

Oh yes. Nostalgia, here I come.

I already knew about the peanut butter, but you can't get donuts (ha, check the lazy spelling), tortillas or chocolate chip cookies, either?

Well, we can get doughnuts and all that stuff. Not the real stuff, though. And when I was a kid, there were no doughnuts or tortillas at all. Or chocolate chip cookies.

The doughnuts you can get over here have the consistency of chewing gum. I did see Oreos in a shop the other day, for about $1 (US) apiece. It's just not the real thing, y'know?

What do we eat? I eat lots of pasta... xD.
