I am lending support to the stereotype that gays are sex crazed, pedophiliac, go go dancing, alcoholic, disease filled, drug using, ass fucking, child molesting, pansy ass, anti-religious queers.

Yup. I'm helping to hold the gay community back by supporting the "fag stragglers" who make us all "look different."

This because I protest cutting off support to members of our own community because their gender presentation is too far outside the norm for heterosexual society to be comfortable with. Because I feel we all lose something - lose a lot - if we whittle parts of ourselves away to fit heterosexist norms.

I don't use the word "heterosexist" much, but this time, I think it's warranted. Because that is NOT what I feel this struggle to be about - "Look at us be Good Queers(tm)!" No, I think not.

Of course, this means that I am helping to destroy the gay rights movement. GO ME!

I just wanted to warn y'all, in case you decided not to associate with me any longer. God knows, I'll only help bring us all down.

This has been a public service announcement!

I can't remember the last time I saw such virulent homophobia in a gay space. How do you respond to something like that?

Soon there will be a movement to fight the gay rights movement from within the gay rights movement, and I'm kinda glad.

Homo attitudes do not have to equal hetero attitudes in order to be equal.

Hi, you don't know me, but I saw your user name in badsex. I liked your icon and I was just wondering where you got it. I've seen a lot of people with the cartoon heads and they're really cool.

I also really like how you have pictures for your moods. That's awesome. If only I was computer/internet savvy. *sigh*

Sorry I haven't responded to you, I'm not on lj much these days.

You can get cartoon heads here.

And you need a paid account for your own mood pictures, but if you get one, I'm sure there's a community that could help you with that whole process. I'm using one someone else made, and I honestly don't remember how I got it set up.

I don't entirely understand the context of this. Is any of this a quote of what was sent to you? It seems more like a response... which makes it kind of possible to determine the original quote but not completely. I'm just a little confused about what was said to you and why.

Quote was as follows:

I do not want to be held back by the "fag stragglers" if you will, who cause us to look different. You can have your own opinions on the topic. Mazel tov to you! It matters how straight people view us, they are the ones who are in the majority. We can never win over their vote if they think we are sex crazed, pedophiliac, go go dancing, alcoholic, disease filled, drug using, ass fucking, child molesting, pansy ass, anti-religious queers. That will not win people over, and that is a way that some people see us. You can go along and lend support to that stereotype if you want, but I will not be holding the gay community back by doing it.

G.D. I've heard that before from someone...

OH
Karel, that radio guy.

I thought it really sucked from him, too. >(

I fully support your view, though for some reason it's hard for me to really wrap my head around the entire issue. I guess because "we" so to speak, are in the middle of the struggle, so such things which might tip the balance one way or another can seem like positives, when they're really counterproductive and hurtful.

I guess it's like saying that black people who listen to rap shouldn't be protected from discrimination, because right wing white republicans don't like rap... or that people in lower socio-economic classes should be left to fend for themselves by "the rest of us," so they don't, "drag us down."

That just dehumanizes our society as a whole.

I think I get it now.
