I got my mom a bottle of pure Canadian maple syrup for her birthday.
Now I'm wondering if that was such a good idea. It seemed like a good idea in the store...
Maybe I should have gotten something else.

Date: 2003-09-27 03:29 am (UTC)I was waiting for this one game to come out, Need for Speed, Motor City... it was (well, is, now) this online MMORPG about building and racing cars.
My dad used to build and race cars, and he loved drag racing and all things hot rod oriented. I thought, since we lived so far apart, we could both play the game and we could meet online and compare cars and race, and trade parts and such, and it would be a cool way to hang out with my dad since I only got to see him about once a month or so.
Anyway... I waited about 8 months, and the game still hadn't come out... so I made this very detailed "gift certificate" where I outlined the game and told all of the features and how we could play online, except that it wasn't out yet, but I'd get it for him as soon as it did, so that we could play.
He opened the envelope, briefly read the certificate, then gave me this, "wtf is this stupid shit?" look and flipped the paper onto the floor with a disgusted look.
That was, like, the last present I ever gave him.
He died the next year, March 31st...
the game came out about a month after that.
