%&#@!&%#! Live journal ate my entry!

It's over. OVER, I TELL YOU! Well, not all tech, but the SMing. The hard part.

Kendall's play went smoothly, which was amazing, considering that I only got the light cues written down an hour before we went up. O.o Damn, I'm good.

Lauryn's play also went well. Tech...not so good in rehearsal. Justin distracted me with something about running lights...should have told him to save it, my bad...and I called the gunshot cue late. So then David not only played the gunshot late (which was my fault, so I'm not howling) but he managed to get a helicopter flying in overhead, somehow. O.o HIS fault. But the play went well.

I got a silver notebook and pen as a thank-you from Trish and Nick. :) Aw. I'm gonna use it for grad signings. And everyone thanked each other (the directors' thank-yous were more stressed than mine, if that's possible.) Other than that I was...ignored.

I don't really want to be a shit about their special day to see their plays go up after all their hard work. I guess I'm just sad my parents didn't bother to come see a tech night. AGAIN. :(

you people...have tech stuff? wow. i've noticed this...our school has-
+a good sound system- we use it to play CDs during intermission and before and after shows, and for two overhead mikes
+lights? what lights? see, the idiot who designed our brand-new auditorium gave it a slanted ceiling backstage, so hanging curtains and lights is really hard. we have...four lights on stage now, i think. and we have curtains. to get any depth, we have these uuuuugly trees in the audience with lights hanging on them. two trees, eight lights. two yellow, two blue on each tree.
+that's most of the really tech stuff, but just to bitch about it, our curtains are see-through AND the dressing rooms are in the MIDDLE OF THE BACK WALL so you can't have the dressing room lights on during a show, but of course people forget, so you end up with the audience seeing light through the curtains throughout the show.
+oh, and the walls of the theater and the light booth are a pretty violet. nice and reflective, yes?
+ooo! i forgot. we wanted a light booth with windows, right? so they give us a light booth with holes for windows- it's the same thing, isn't it? so you can hear from the audience everything anyone says in the light booth. convenient, huh? and the windows are too low.

i hate our auditorium. hate it hate it hate it. stupid builder. AUUUUGH!!!!
::end of rant::
so, how are you?

Ha.
- our sound system is okay. Not great. The speakers keep blowing, and the amps pop or something...I dunno, I'm not a sound person.

- lots of lights, although they are pretty old. Grid over the stage, front-of-house-grid, catwalk to hang the extras from. Something like...24 circuits? I dunno. SWEET lighting board..oooh. Lights run off the computer, normally, but my tech teacher wants me to run lights for the next show I tech MANUALLY instead of programming it b/c it is "good practise." --_-- There are, like, 15 manual cross-fades I'm doing. *rolls eyes* Our teacher buys new gels when we need them, but on short notice, amber and blue is usually what we have oon hand, I think.

We only tend to use trees for stuff in the gym, Christmas shows and stuff. That used to be where the tech people worked, but the tech stuff there sucked. We snuck up there, once. You have to crawl around water pipes to get to the old tech booth. O.o They had a big old dimmer box up there, with HUGE levers...I can't believe that used to be tech equipment people used. O.o

-We don't have curtains. Well, at the back, across the arch, but the apron has been built on and built on...there's like, 3 feet from the curtains to the dressing room wall. I dunno what's up w/ that. The dressing room is right in the middle of the back as well. It kinda looks added on. Maybe that explains the above. But Ms. E (drama/tech teacher makes SURE we remember to go to blue during shows.

- Violet? Ha, if you think THAT'S bad, check this out - our theatre has 4 or 5 windows that are like 20 feet high. Very pretty, no? They have to be covered w/ new tin foil regularily. Ms. E tells us the funny story of when she first walked into the room, saw the windows and freaked...

The walls of our tech booth are white, but we go to blue, and the tech booth is up high, anyway. *shrugs* Not a problem.

- We have sliding windows in our tech booth. But if we need them open, we still have headsets. You guys should get headsets.

I'm great, right now.

yeah, so no one likes to give theater people the stuff they deserve. it does sound like you have a pretty large drama program-- i mean, we don't even *really* have techies, mostly just actors who care enough to do tech work. i'm even really an actor at heart, i'm just not good enough, so i techie. and our whole drama program is miniscule.
and, hey! you have a catwalk. we wanted a fly loft, but they wouldn't give us one, instead they gave us the stupid slanted ceiling that slants down to really short. we don't have a computer for the lights, that would cost too much money so they won't give it to us...so we do everything manually, but that's ok, cause there's not a whole lot to do, considering we have a total of 12 lights in the whole place. and there's this huge lack of storage and a lot of other stuff but i'll shut up now.
right.
i hate football people who won't give any money to the ARTS.
