According to what my mother tells me, we will have $20 000 to blow from moving into a smaller house. And lately, she's been saying of practically anything financial, "Oh, we'll have the money for that soon."

Problem is, I don't know if 20 thou is going to stretch for what we need. Maybe I just don't understand how much money that is. I don't know. But it seems like we're going to need a lot.

Here's a list of stuff we need to get:

-new bookcases for me and my sister (about $100 each, so that's not much in itself...)
-a new bed for me
-a new desk for me
-possibly a new dresser for me

(Basically, we trashed all my old furniture.)

Then:
-a washer and a dryer
-a new computer table
-new couches, chairs, etc. for our living room (Dad got the old stuff)
-various storage stuff because the house is smaller
-we need to cut down a tree in our front yard

Since moving in, we've discovered that:
-the roof leaks
-we had to replace the water heater
-we will probably have to replace both garage doors (leaky, falling apart, malfunctioning, etc.)

Is $20 000 dollars going to cover all that? And if it does, how much will be left over?

It should, but just barely. I don't think you'll have a lot left over.

i figure that estimates roughly right, depending on what kinda furnature etc u buy and things like that, but i dont see much mroe than a couple of gfrand left over because getting a leaky roof fixed depending on how bad can be a bitch

yeah you'll be fine

just make sure when you are getting things to now get the solid oak gold plated stuff. if you just get what you need and something not crappy so it will last, but not fancy it'll be fine.

Hmm... I can only judge in 'murican dollars so I'll have to convert...
lesse... so that's 14705 'muricans...

bookcases - 200
bed - 200
desk - 140
dresser - 140
washer/dryer - 500
computer table - 140
couches - 1400
chairs - 600
storage - 250
tree - 150
roof - 2000
water heater - 250 + 200 installation
garage doors - hmm... say 2000

lesse... looks like around 8170, so call it 10000 just to be sure.

hmm... so that leaves 4705 'murican, which is about 6,400 CAD's.

um.. hmm
as always, YMMV, but that's about what I could get it for, honestly.
I hope it works out that well!! :))))
