Lazy day like that Enya song
Apr. 26th, 2003 07:19 pmSlow day around here today. We were supposed to get to cleaning the basement today (yuck), but we never got to it. Because we meant to clean while the cleaner-carpet dude cleaned the carpets. But that didn't happen, either - he didn't come.
And why is that? Because his equipment froze - he left his van parked outside. He put it in the garage this morning, so it will be thawed out tomorrow, but that means I have to get up at the same god-awful hour I did this morning. Poo.
And his equipment froze because WE HAD A HUUUUUGE FUCKING SNOW STORM!
Nic went outside and measured the snow drifts. We have somewhere between 10 and 20 inches, depending on where you place the yardstick.
So I've spent most of the day reading my new Stephen King book, Dreamcatcher. Honestly, I'm so used to his gimmicks by now, noticing them intrudes on the story.
And I don't read his books for the "scare" at all. I read it because I think he has a fairly interesting take on people and human nature. Some of his best work was with things like Rita Hayworth and the Shawshanke Redemption.
I think he should try writing something that's not horror again. I think he's better at that, really. Shameful waste.

Date: 2003-04-26 08:00 pm (UTC)that so sucks!! (getting up early)
(is snow good or bad? I can't remember)
nm about the chat, then, we can just catch up on that some other day!
I've got Dreamcatcher (it was on sale for $1 somewhere...) but haven't read it. He's just been so disappointing lately... like you said. Too formulaic, to be sure.

Date: 2003-04-26 09:37 pm (UTC)Definitely, he needs to go in a new direction...I mean, I knew he was REALLY in trouble when he did another evil car book. Like...hello? Anyone alive in there? Is the writer still at home, or has the guy who just has money to make taken over completely?
I honestly think he has the potential to be an amazing writer, he's just not doing the work.
Erm...*shuts up*

I don't know! any time, really.
How about Sunday night? or Mondayish?
Sun I'm working, so it would have to be 1am your time.
Monday I'm off, so maybe 11pm your time would be workable... or even earlier, but I don't know if we have anything planned.
Teus we're going to look at property... so would not be home until maybe 11pm your time.
He did another evil car book? (only know Christine off the top of my head)

Date: 2003-04-26 11:26 pm (UTC)My fave Stephen King book is Gerald's Game. It truly frightened me. I loved it. Loved Misery also.
