Blurty is the bomb. I throw up a username and BOOM! I have nearly all the benefits of a paid account to play with. I decided to take advantage and try and get down some mad html skillz.

It's not going so good.

Well, that's not true. I've kinda figured out how to make semi-transparent tables, but it doesn't appear to work too well with most lj styles. I just get a big fuzzy box, rather than little fuzzy entry tables. Hmm.

(Of course, I don't really understand this stuff. Anything I know of html has all been leaned by "view source," guess which code means what, copy and paste and watch what happens.)

And now I'm trying to figure out how to take an image and place it as a non-repeating background in one of my bjs.

With a simple html document, I can take an image and place it where I want, and it doesn't repeat. It's all good. But when I move the code to bj, for some reason it won't show up. I honestly can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Blah. I give up. I'm through with lj and thinking with my higher brain tonight. Off to read nc-17 fanfics until my eyeballs start to bleed.

Which they will soon. You'd think I would have sense enough to sleep at this point but then I'd feel like I'm not doing anything worthwhile.

Are you *still* up?

Wish I wasn't. :-P

I want to look at your blurty now, but I think it's your, um, secret one? Fuzzy semi-transparent tables? I want some! Well, I want to see what they look like, first. Can you put non-repeating images on LJ but not on blurty? I don't know how to make a non-repeating background even in plain HTML. *shrug* Should learn to do some of this stuff, I need to make a webpage, one of these days.

BTW

Wehee, geeky stuff. ;o)

The best way to do the picture background thing in particular is with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), which is a great little thing, but something you can't learn much about with View Source. The only problem with it is that people with old browsers (And by this I mean pretty old; < 5.0) might not see it right. But if you wanna try it out, the best site I know of, (as far as inundating you with a bunch of references and properties to play with, at least) would be www.htmlhelp.com. Might want to try out a CSS tutorial from someplace else first, though, just to see how to do it all. :o)

Ah, how I love Blurty. I'm thinking of creating an assload of journals, preparing for the demise of their all journals are free status.

You read HP fanfics, right? NC-17 is the only way to go. :)

This is how you learn HTML, silly! =)

Another really good source: http://www.htmlgoodies.com !

Yup, know that site. (Okay, maybe "view source" isn't how I learned EVERYTHING. ^_~)

But as for learning html, I'm sure there's textbooks and stuff out there. *shrug* There MUST be...don't you think?

*hugs*

Oh, there's textbooks out there, I just don't find it to be the best way to learn HTML. I think the best way is to just do. That's how I learned!

But...but...that's what I'm using! *sob*

Well, okay, here's what I put into the style, minus the spaces:

< style type="text/css" >
BODY {background-image: url(http://www.boomspeed.com/beandelphiki/sexyharls.gif);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: 550px 150px;
background-attachment: fixed;}

< /style >

No idea what I'm doing wrong. *shrug*

Thanks for the link though, I'll check it out.

If you want to see what I mean by fuzzy tables, go check out [livejournal.com profile] gay_sex_tips, that's a good example of what I mean.

And blurty uses the same source code as lj. *shrug*

IMO, HTML isn't something that you can learn with a book, because usually you just want to be able to do *something* and books walk you through step-by-step. That's tedious, for me. I like to be able to find what I want, use the code, and then when I need it again, I know what code I need to use. I guess I'm not what some would call a "real" coder, but that's what works best for me.

I've been so lazy, lately, though. I haven't had the desire to put up anything on my domain. *sigh*

Hmm, that all looks right... Only thing I can think is, if you can, you might wanna link the CSS rather than put it inline. Whatever content manager you're using might be mangling the <style> tag or something.

Mer...make it an html document and upload it somewhere and link it?
