beandelphikiRed Cross meeting tonight...I'm going to be a Facilitator of the RespectED Task Force! If I can find the time, that is.
I met Brad. (Runs the Youth Advisory Counsel.) Cool guy, he has a tattoo of Mickey Mouse on his left ankle. :)
So today I basically skipped English w/ Kat and Donna. We sat outside in the sun and just hung out. :D Cathy walked by and said, "Don't you guys have class?"
"Yes," we replied.
"Ohhh." lol.
We talked a lot about "gay people." (Donna's choice of topic, lol.) I find it funny that she used to have a problem w/ it, and we've watched her gradually accept it more and more over the last 3 years.
And Justin and Kathleen showed up and we talked about my being trans. (Some more.) I also find it funny the way straight people just nod and accept it at face value, and gay people have to pick it apart and make it their problem. Well, it's not always like that, but that's been the main of my experience.
And Justin doesn't think I sound like a girl at all, he said. Yay!
*yawns* Goin' to bed, now.

Date: 2002-05-14 06:45 am (UTC)I think that these days straight white people are really conditioned to be accepting, tolerant and open, whereas gay/non-caucasian people are conditioned to get defensive. Kind of ironic.

Date: 2002-05-14 04:18 pm (UTC)I think it is much more blown open, and is much more specific to certain people then that. I don't know many asian people who are overtly afraid or intolerant of transexual, bisexual or homosexual people, except FOB's but that's because they're all assholes (yes a generalization, but until you can show me one really interesting, one cool FOB, that stands). I do believe its because often, the most ignorant ones are the ones that stand out the most, that people see and that get into the news (also the media tends to promote those sort of people more often then the quiet accepting people)
Something to ponder on.
