We got our English essays back today. I thought I would do a terrible job, but it turns out I got 100%.

My prof wanted to talk to me after class. He'd written on my paper that after all the times he's given the assignment, my essay is one of the most powerful he's ever read. He expanded on that after class to say that he thinks he's qualified to speak for my writing proficiency (he's won Governor General's awards, he works with professional writers across the country...something like that) and he thinks that I have "potential to be...etc, etc." All I could do was bob my head like a puppet.

This is very weird. I know that teachers have often told me that I write well, but this was only with the immediate future in mind. "You write okay...you'll do fine on the next essay, Dan," is stuck in my head from all the times I asked, "So, what's the next assignment?"

Never once has anyone ever suggested in quite so serious a manner that I might actually go somewhere with this. That I could write something and be a success with that eventually. Hell, I'm not sure ANYONE'S ever expressed the belief I might be a success in ANY field.

I absolutely trust Richard, and that he would say this is a little perplexing, a little flattering and a lot scary.

I don't know what to think about this.

I know only this: I need some new icons. Hmm.

I've never read your writing outside of a livejournal perspective, but I'd have to say that you're a pretty damn good writer. I would definitely be interested in reading more of what you have writen (and I think you'd make an awesome author, or playwright?)

Wow! That is totally cool. I'm so glad you have a great teacher who appreciates you!

Don't let it spook you. Keep it with you, always. A little sphere of positive energy, of good feeling and self esteem. Some power to help you when you're feeling nervous. It's really a special gift, he's given you, this recognition.

Why am I writing like this? I have no idea.
Sorry if it was too much.
