Okay, this episode was pretty awesome. I was terribly afraid because "the Doctor's daughter" looked so VERY Mary Sue-ish, but she's redeemable. They didn't do too bad a job, consider how horrible this COULD have been.
Episode notes:
-Okay, nice that the Doctor actually points out that his hand's going nuts and that's not supposed to be some sly hint. Because it wasn't all that sly in the first place.
-"I thought that was just some freaky alien thing!" LOL, WHUT? What exactly would the Doctor do with a hand? Not that I expect her to have figured out it's his, either. I'm just surprised she hasn't asked.
-"You are completely impossible!" "Not impossible, just a bit unlikely."
-Okay, WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?! I backed that up and watched it again. They take a sample from his manly, hair hand and a fully formed 20-something blonde chick who can operate a gun pops out a little chamber? WTF?!
-And oh god, here comes the incest fic. I can feel it. Ohhh no.
-Collateral damage? Are we SURE this kid is the Doctor's spawn?
-GO DONNA! So outraged on Martha's behalf.
-I just teared up at Martha trying to examine the fish-critter that captured her. The mark of a true doctor.
-Martha = KICKASS so far this episode. I like her better on her own than as part of a military unit. Oh and um, the TARDIS is on her side of the blockage, lovely.
-Nerys is actually Donna's friend?! It would have been better if they'd been distantly related. Is RTD TOTALLY incapable of conceiving of female relationships that aren't adversarial?
-Okay, all this discussion of the definition of parenthood aside, seriously: is Jenny Gallifreyan or what? Does she have Time Lord physiology?
-The Haath have generators, too? Oooh lovely, are we getting Super!Martha!Spawn?
-The Haath don't have medical care, apparently. The appearance of a doctor is the second coming of the messiah.
-Why is "DoctorDonna"'s first thought at the threat to her life, "We're not a couple"? Remarkably blase, those two.
-Jenny out-arguing the Doctor! "You. are. speechless! I'm loving this."
-Don't you hate how you always loose your signal just when you need it?
-Donna always gets to the emotional heart of things, yes? I'm guessing this is going to matter big time in the finale, because it seems to be the strength they're having her play up the most.
-"Two hearts." Wellll, that answers the physiology question. And ooh, the Doctor really doesn't want to accept that. A reflection of all he's lost, thrown back in his face.
-Um, so how exactly did Martha learn to speak Haath? Is the TARDIS translating for her but not us?
-"I'd like to see you try that." LOL, her and everyone else.
-"Save your wiles for later." BURN DOCTOR. Donna's going to make you pay for that one.
-You'd think Martha would have learned those itty-bitty coats are impractical a long time ago.
-LOL Jenny loves the description of TARDIS life. I do like her. Also like DT's manic little grin on, "Did you say something about running?"
-"That's not mood lighting, is it?"
-"NO. WAI." I forgive the incredibly cliched Laser Hallway bit for that.
-Aww, father-daughter bonding moment! Hugs! ...She's gonna die now.
-OHMYGODNO. The Haath sacrificed himself for Martha! This is like when Artax sinks into the Swamps of Sadness in The Neverending Story and you think, no, he can't really be dead, no, he leaps out heroically any moment now. But he doesn't. He's just dead. *having a moment*
-Donna = best companion ever, y/y? Confronting the Doctor about how he won't face the Time War. "I think you're wrong." Whoo!
-Martha's rescuing her DAMN self. In case that wasn't clear enough. *grins*
-Supertemp!Donna is super!
-Um, if robots built the city in seven days, what the hell happened to them?
-"I'm the Doctor, and I declare this war over!" Love how he always thinks prefacing his statements with, "I'm the Doctor," gives them more authority or something.
-Aaaand there's the moment I was waiting for. Master!death!redux, Last of the Time Lords, wah.
-"She was too much like me." (???)
-Oh my god, DT is just scary here. Brilliant and very scary. His face when she dies, the whole thing. I really didn't know for a second if he would shoot the General or not. He's just brilliant. And yes, I'm going to keep saying that, just like I say it about CT. I'M POINTLESS, REPETITIOUS AND EXTREMELY DULL LIKE THAT.
"I'm going to travel with that man forever." *facepalms*
-When the Doctor says goodbye to Martha and tells her there's always something worth living for...he doesn't look to me like he totally believes it. Or like he's thinking that there's always something to live for, but that doesn't mean it's enough.
-OMGNOWAIWTF. That is all.
So Jenny is okay so far, although if they give her all sorts of crazy new abilities in upcoming episodes, they'll ruin her. Let's hope they're smart enough not to.
And oh god, poor Doctor. The farther we get into the new series, the more painful it gets. I'm going to start having horrible dreams about the Time War or something at this rate. Give the Doctor a break of some kind, TPTB, please!

Date: 2008-05-11 06:56 am (UTC)Considering how many planets seem to have been lost due to the time war... yup... definitely his spawn.
> -"NO. WAI." I forgive the incredibly cliched Laser Hallway bit for that.
I somehow want Donna-icons with "NO WAI!", "SRSLY?" and "O RLY?" ... and I somehow bet that the creators did it just because of that.

Same thing Rose said... and ended up in another universe.
I hope the Timelords come back at the end of the season.
Did you notice the little UNIT-sign at about 10 minutes 45 seconds into the episode? It's on the right side of the screen. Wonder why it's there and what it means... I heard it was placed there on purpose.

Oh right, I remembered what I wanted to say. THAT BIT OF THE NEVERENDING STORY - SO HEARTBREAKING! As a kid, I had the Neverending Story on tape, and I always had to fast forward this bit. So sad :(.

Date: 2008-05-13 02:54 pm (UTC)TPTB did say that after Rose and Martha, they wanted Donna to be a regular person, not a "superhero."
