Thought re: Neo-Nazis
Mar. 5th, 2006 08:17 pmMmmkay, there was some recent drama on my list, more specifically in a community that starts with a "queer" and ends with a "rage."
The OP was banned, which I pretty much called months ago. I mean, I thought I skirted some bans in the oppression-related communities around lj (including in that thread), but yeesh. As soon as this guy showed up and I figured out who he was, I was counting down to his eventual bannation. I've seen him around lj for years in various reincarnations, and he's always been someone who sets off bad vibes.
He said something in his last post about someone growing up in a white liberal household to be a Neo-Nazi was an example of education "not taking root."
Sudden thought I had a few minutes ago:
This isn't correct. It sounds and looks good from the outside, but not at its core. Some kid who grows up in a white liberal colorblind-racism household who then goes on to be a Neo-Nazi is, in fact, an example of education taking very STRONG root.
It's the subtle (to white people) and pervasive education of white racism taking root. It's pervasive sexism taking root. It's the whole goddamn, fucked-up mess of oppressive bullshit that passes for a "progressive" society taking root and eating anything else. It's somebody somehow finding the REAL messages and assimilating them.
In fact, I think it's a perfect example of the effect education can have on a person.

Yup...

There's a part in there where he talks about the Black Panther Party, and when someone (probably a WOC) tells him, the way you keep invoking the Black Panthers and collapse their history and larger context of African-American history into just an allegory to push queers to fight back is irritating, at best, he responds by telling her that she doesn't know anything about Black Panthers.
If you ignore how irritating he is, it's actually really funny, because I think he PWNS himself a few times.
