White people in [livejournal.com profile] blackfolk have been severely chastised in the past for speaking up too much - I know this, in fact just watched the last mini-drama go down, and suddenly, my own post-count in that community has jumped.

What the hell? I wish I could crawl inside my brain and figure out what's going on in there, because it almost seems like I'm tempting the fates. (Or the tempers and patience of the folks there. Whichever.)

I can't believe that I have sat back and sat on it for so many months, and RIGHT after someone gets smacked for being too noisy, I start opening my mouth.

I mean - what am I doin'?

Ironically, I am SO FRUSTRATED with most of the white people in that community right now. Do they EVER stop wandering in with their you're not allowed to hate my benevolent white ass shit?

[Completely random] Every time I try to go to the bookstore, I try to look up bell hooks on the computer there, and I can never remember who I am trying to look up. Why can I only remember things when I DON'T need/want to? I could cry. [/random]

*tee hees* bell hooks.

*blush* Ah. Thank you! I had an idea that they were kind of little loops of wire for hanging Christmas tree ornaments, for some reason...

Heh, it's cool. The lack of capitalization on an unknown name has to be confusing.

Actually, I can totally see why you thought that! Apparently, it's not her real name either, so I wonder how she came up with it.

From the bio on the site you posted a link to:

She explained to Rebecca Carroll for Elle (December 1994) that one of her great-grandmothers, a Native American, was named bell hooks and that her own use of the name is "about celebrating female legacies." The lower-case spelling hooks prefers, she said, is "about ego: What's in a name? It is the substance in my books, not who is writing them, that is important."
