Mar. 18th, 2004 11:54 amLast night, I signed on to lj briefly and noticed I had been serial-added by
fags_go_to_hell. Amused, I checked it out...I had to laugh. The most recent post in this journal was a photograph of a young man lounging shirtless on a bed (the poster claimed it was a photo of himself), and the badly misspelled text beneath warned "fags" not to jack off to the picture, or there would be violent consequences.
Tell me that the person behind this journal wasn't aware of the humor. I doubt it. But that's all beside the point.
This morning I sign on, and the journal is gone. Suspended. Within hours. Interesting.
How long did it take for
nigger_central to get suspended? Days? Weeks? I don't know, but I've read various comments from people who indicate it took a while. What's up with that?
Is lj just wiser to the serial-adding problem than it was a few weeks ago, and faster on the draw because of the drama it's created? Or what? Someone in
gaystr8alliance commented that
fags_go_to_hell was suspended because the journal was full of "hate speech."
Is a username that has the n-word in it not hate speech?
I. You agree to NOT use the Service to:

...
11. "Stalk" or otherwise harass another person or company;
Didn't
nigger_central violate those sections of the TOS? So why did so many people claim it was not a "big deal" and just a stupid joke?
Why does it seem from where I'm standing that serial-adders like this were just dismissed as unimportant for weeks, until such large numbers of people complained that it had to be addressed? Why wasn't it deleted the moment someone realized there was a TOS violation involved?
I don't want to say that the Abuse team is not doing what they can to keep lj an enjoyable service. I don't think they would want to alienate people from livejournal!
But it bothers me that these things seemed to take forever to be considered a PROBLEM.
Anyway, I hope the hasty disappearance of
fags_go_to_hell means that ALL of these serial-adders who are reported will disappear with the same speed.
