beandelphikiBlargh. I woke up this morning and discovered I've come down with the nasty cold my sister brought home from school a few days ago. Thanks, kid. I've missed my physics class today, and I think I'll probably be missing math and chem tomorrow. And we have our first lab in chem, too. *sighs*
Anyway, I've been thinking of the positions I sleep in.
I never sleep all flopped-out and relaxed, on my back. I tend to sleep curled up and cramped. One of my "favorite" positions (as in, it's a position I will get into naturally while sleeping) is to sleep on my side with one arm curled protectively up around my head, one arm curled around my chest, and my legs crossed and pulled up to protect my groin. Is that a female thing, or what? I can't decide if it bothers me or not that my subconscious mind decides my girl parts need protecting. I'm not sure where it's coming from. Some instinct the male part of me doesn't/can't override?
Another one: this morning I woke up curled in a ball and lying face-down, all pulled in like a turtle. My head down, my legs folded up, my hands in little fists under my chin. Many a morning I have woken with pins-and-needles in my hands from lying like that. I guess I feel safer presenting only my back as a target.
Although, really, there's not a part of your body that's "safe" to get hit. I remember how many times as a kid I ended up curled in a corner with one or both of my parents kicking at my back, and how terrified I was that they'd damage something. Like my spine.
Why don't we have shells or something, dammit? We're so poorly designed.
Anyway. I sleep like I'm about to be attacked at any moment. I wonder if I always did this?
I wonder who else sleeps like that.
