Random (elitist!) notes
Jul. 8th, 2003 12:52 amI was scrolling back though my entries, looking for something (I can't remember what now, dang it) and I came across the entry where I linked
intellectelite. So I dropped in again to see if the community is thriving.
You know what? I think I'll join! Just to be able to have a guaranteed source of amusement, like...
A new addition to the comm announced that he "fell in smit" with the community. (...)
Or:
jumbodaifuku running into Brainless Wonder's latest incarnation. (The first entry of the community, again.) I love it ! I wanna see it again! *cackles and plots*
Some guy on Gaia pointed out his new signature. It's Nemo Ne Impune Lacessit. Problem is, the guy is saying things like, "Look at my sig, bitches! I'll kill you all!"
I pulled up a reply box and typed:
How ironic. Quoting Poe without really having any idea what that story was about, I'll bet.
Amusing, really.
I think your sig should say something like, "I DO read, I just don't get anything meaningful out of it."
Then I backed out.
Now, the question is: did I back out because I am becoming less confrontational? (Good...I think.) Or did I back out because I was afraid that someone would ask for my analysis of The Cask of Amontillado and I wasn't sure I was up to it? (Since I haven't reviewed that story in quite a while.)
Hmmm....
More links:
Harry Potter. It's just...queer. In a way.
VIRTUAL bubble wrap!
PERPETUAL virtual bubble wrap!

but omg. the first bubble wrap site was so cool. I totally loved it. Especially the "techniques" section where people were writing in their techniques, like popping the bubbles in their mouth. Ha!! I've done that... the guy is soooo right.
The HP article was kind of disturbing. Maybe I'm too tired to figure it out, because I kept thinking that he was actually lashing out against the books, at least in so far as they're being proffered to children. Of course, at the end he turns it around, saying that we should, instead, make our own lives more queer, perhaps... but still... much of the tone was quite negative.

Date: 2003-07-08 10:13 am (UTC)And I think the whole thing is ridiculous. Harry Potter, a gay coming out story?? Yeah, the slashers only wish. The parryhotter comm was sorta thrilled to see this, ironically. I just laughed and pointed at the idiocy.

I was reading back, and found this comment, and it occurred to me to go look up the Latin.
YOU were right, according to Merriam-Webster. The guy with it in his sig is wrong, it's not "ne," it's "me."
I recognized it on sight, but I never thought to check it was exactly right.
Too funny. Errare humanum est. Oops.
