Attempting to install AOL/AIM on my own...

...Probably not the swiftest idea I ever had.

What's a LAN, and how do I know if I have that or a modem?

If your computer has to dial a phone number to get connected to the internet, you have a modem. If your computer is always connected to the internet and it's really fast, then you have a LAN.

BTW, LAN stands for Local Area Network. So if your computers (if you have more than one) are all connected to each other, that's a LAN. It doesn't necessarily mean that you are hooked up to the internet though.

For the purposes of AIM, if you have a fast connection, you have to chose LAN for AIM.

Hmm. Not working. Hmmm. "Service cannot be reached?" Musta done something wrong, I guess.

Ergh. Twenty to two. Will figure it out later.

Oh...the site says this message means a problem at their end. Will try later, then.

Dunno, but it's not dialup. It's always connected. And I'm pretty sure it's not cable. We don't have cable TV, so it can't be.

I know I know this, I just can't remember.

LAN is local area network...WAN is World(?) Area Network. I actually learned something from all those years listening to Rob talk about our network. Yeah...we have four computers...with wireless connections. Wheefun! LAN connection to other computers in your network WAN connect to the internet and computers not in your network. Go me! Ok, sorry.
