*meeps*
FUCK, I hate this "Yaaaay! Canada got gay marriage!" thing spreading like wildfire.
I HATE IT, I HATE IT, I HATE IT.
Maybe I'm just in a bad mood because my cat just had to be put down, I dunno.
But, god, it's so upsetting. I've seen it at least ten times on my friends list now, and it makes me want to throw my computer out the window.
But, Dan, you say, WHY?
Because I don't trust the government and law-makers in my country, that's why! This was all supposed to have been over months ago. I don't think it's over yet. I'm sure SOMETHING will undo this, some legal battle, and then everyone will be so pissed.
I guess I've just always been one of those people who doesn't like counting his chickens too soon.
Edit: It occurs to me I also might not know how this thing works. But I'm cynical. If there's a way to undo it, I'm personally convinced it'll happen.

1) The Canadian federal government made no move to try for a stay of the ruling or an injunction to stop it. If they were going to try to stop it, they would have already made moves in that direction, and they haven't.
2) Here's why I think they won't now. Two men have been legally married in Toronto. That sets a precedent. The government cannot now nullify that marriage without even more uproar than there already has been.
No, I don't think this one is going to be overturned. I think we can celebrate this.

What I mean by that is...well, people still want to overturn Roe vs. Wade. And I think it might even still happen. Things like that CAN happen (right?), and I think the U.S. doesn't seem very...stable...right now.
Of course, I forgot we're talking about Canada. I still don't trust my country, but our main problem is usually just that we're pussies. (I realize that word could be offensive, and I don't mean it to be, but nothing better is coming to mind at the moment.) So yeah, I guess I just need to remember it's Canada we're talking about here. And Bush isn't our president. Yeah.
